LANGLEY: Currency Exchange (Call 1-877-355-5239)

There are many businesses in Langley that deal with US dollars or other forms of international currency on a recurring basis. When looking to buy or sell large quantities of USD, it can often be challenging to find the best exchange deal in the city. It is common for most businesses to just approach their banks when looking to exchange their funds. At first glance, this seems to be the optimal solution, as banks already have your personal information on record and are well versed in your finances. Business owners will therefore blindly trust their bank, regardless of the total FX cost. Unfortunately this convenience can come with a huge price tag, especially when the transactions occur on an ongoing basis. Banks are aware of their massive influence in terms of customer loyalty, and in return they can get away with charging higher rates. The fact of the matter is there is no real need for them to offer competitive rates, seeing as most of their consumer base will walk through the door no questions asked.

If this sounds like you, we want to show you a few alternatives that aim to keep more money in your wallet.

Places Where You Could Find Cash Exchange in Langley

As part of the Greater Metro Vancouver area and being close to the United States, there is an increasing demand for buying US dollars in the region.  Fortunately for you, Langley has no shortage of options for international currency exchange. Some Canadian businesses near the southern border will allow you to pay in USD upfront, but who knows what kind of exchange rate you’ll receive. Occasionally you’ll end up spending more than you needed to just because a business added a huge rate markup. For this reason in particular, it’s important to exchange the currency you need while you’re still on home soil.

Willowbrook Mall and Shopping Centre FX

One of the most popular options in Langley for exchanging CAD and USD is at the Willowbrook Shopping Centre.  Located at 19705 Fraser highway, the complex is the largest commercial and retail centre in Langley, British Columbia. Firstly, you could exchange money at the number of bank branches that are situated inside the shopping centre as well as in the surrounding areas.  The only bank that has a branch that is located directly inside the mall is the Bank of Nova Scotia, but there are a number of other banks located within the Willowbrook retail complex.  The Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal are located along Willowbrook drive and HSBC Bank has a branch located just across the street in the plaza. You could find HSBC within the Riocan Langley Gate Shopping Centre on Langley Bypass and 200 Street.  There is also a Canadian Imperial Commerce Bank that is just a bit north at 64 Avenue and 201 Street. If you bank with a credit union instead, there are three notable ones in the surrounding area.  Prospera Credit Union and the Vancity Credit Union are both on 200 Street just north of Willowbrook, while the First West Credit Union is right across from the CIBC branch.

There’s no need to worry if you prefer not to do business with the major banks. There is one very good alternative inside the Willowbrook mall if you’re looking to trade small amounts of cash.  International Currency Exchange, a retail currency exchange company, has a kiosk located inside the mall that provides decent FX services.

The money exchange options at the Willowbrook Mall area are convenient options, but only if you live close by. Naturally there are quite a few options within the same area, so you can generally shop around and compare the rates from one place to another.  It’s worth mentioning however that no banks or cash retail currency provider will have the best rates in the Langley area. To truly get the most bang for your buck, we recommend placing all of your currency conversions electronically. However, when swapping a few hundred dollars or less it really doesn’t matter where you.

Langley Regional Airport Currency Exchange

Langley actually has its own regional airport but it’s more geared towards training services than commercial flights. As a result, it doesn’t actually provide any sort of currency exchange services for retail clients.  Since Langley is part of the metro Vancouver area, the only other airport that caters to this need is the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) which is located in the neighboring city of Richmond. To give approximate distance estimation, it is about 61.5 KM from downtown Langley.  The Vancouver International Airport provides a number of currency exchanges among its various retail FX opportunities as well as incorporating bank branches in every terminal.  Don’t forget, airports tend to have some worst exchange rates imaginable; so if you need to exchange money for trips abroad, ensure that you do it ahead of time.  If you are entering Canada, don’t feel like you need to place a conversion immediately. There are a number of places with rates better once you leave the airport, especially if you search online.

Foreign Exchange at Hotels, Inns and Best Westerns in Langley

Amongst other options for exchanging money in Langley is the large assortment of inner city hotels.  The surrounding cities in the Metro Vancouver area are generally a more popular choice for tourists visiting Vancouver. It’s simply because hotel and overnight accommodation costs are much cheaper in Langley than downtown Vancouver.  Hotels in Langley that provide an in-house currency exchange service include the Coast Hotel & Convention Centre, the Best Western Plus Langley Inn, the Sandman Signature Langley Hotel, the Best Western Plus Country Meadows Inn, the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Langley-Surrey, and the Coast Hotel & Convention Centre.

These hotels are a convenient option for exchange, but only if you are already staying with them and want to avoid the headache of finding a better alternative.  The exchange rates aren’t the best, but they are most likely better than the airport’s rates, and if you’re only exchanging a couple dozen CAD you’re only forfeiting a few dollars in savings.

Exchanging Dollars at one of Langley’s Major Banks

Banks are often everybody’s go-to choice that many people consider when they are looking to exchange dollars. The Big Five Banks of Canada have a large presence within Langley and are made up of TD Canada Trust, RBC, BMO, Scotia Bank and CIBC.  A large majority of these branches are concentrated in the Willowbrook-Fraser highway area.  In addition to the aforementioned banks, there are also a number of different credit unions that also provide foreign exchange services.  Some of these credit unions include Prospera Credit Union, Vancity Credit Union, First West Credit Union, and Aldergrove Credit Union.

The exchange rates at banks compared to the credit unions should be quite similar. However, there’s a good chance that rates differ between different providers.  Some banks do offer preferential exchange rates as part of certain travel banking packages, so if you’re making tons of transactions it might be worth asking about this.

Banks win in the convenience department, but they’re only valuable for low volume transactions since their foreign exchange won’t save you money. On large volume exchanges it is best to find a specialized currency exchange provider that can offer you rates that are closer to the mid-market rate, such as KnightsbridgeFX.

FX Retail Chain Franchises

Retail currency exchange services are also another commonly used option for conversions.  Unlike banks and kiosks however, these are much harder to find in Langley.  The first is the International Currency Exchange kiosk that is located in the Willowbrook Shopping Centre.  The second is a Cash Money branch that can be found just off the Fraser highway on Acacia crescent.  Cash Money is a company that mostly specializes in personal loans, but they also provide a money exchange service on top of that.  Another retail option is Capital Forex Currency Exchange although it’s a smaller franchise than the others.  Cash retail operations tend to be on the higher end for exchange rates due to their high overhead costs, but there is one advantage: physical cash. At these places you could easily convert your dollars into hard paper money.

Where Can I Find the Cheapest Foreign Exchange in Langley?

Finding the best exchange rate in Langley is much like getting the best deal on anything; you simply shop around until you see a price that you like.  While you can’t necessarily control what happens to a price, especially on the currency markets, you can compare different providers to see who has the best offer.  Now that we live in a digital age, your choices aren’t just limited to Langley, BC. Your options are virtually limitless – you can cast a wider net on providers within the metro Vancouver area, or simply ask Google.  In some instances, you can even work with currency exchange specialists across Canada. As more and more services move online, companies reduce their overhead costs that derive from having brick-and-mortar operations. In turn, that allows them to give you more competitive rates.

The Municipality of Langley, British Columbia

East of Surrey in south-western British Columbia, Canada is the Township of Langley. Originally inhabited by the First Nations people, the initial European settlers to stay in the area permanently were Hudson’s Bay Company traders. In 1827, Fort Langley was erected to compete with American fur traders and was eventually expanded in 1858 when gold was discovered in the Fraser River. Following the Second World War, Langley experienced rapid growth and has now developed a healthy balance between a suburban and urban community.

In terms of culture, beyond just its historical buildings, the area takes part in British Columbia’s wine-making tradition by owning many wineries due to ideal climate conditions. The area also has a booming local equine industry, earning the Township of Langley the title of Horse Capital of BC.
