OSHAWA: Currency Exchange (Call 1-877-355-5239)

You should approach KnightsbridgeFX for currency conversion services whenever you’re looking to get large amounts of US dollars in Oshawa. Unlike the banks, KBFX always presents their clients with highly competitive exchange rates and no hidden transaction fees. Taking your foreign currency service inquiries to the banks could be costing you much more than you realize. With incredibly high overhead costs, banks inflate their rates in order to be able to generate a profit. Due to them having a huge base of loyal customers, the banks do not need to compete on price – they get away with charging unfavorable prices because people know their brand.

At Knightsbridge Foreign Exchange we do things much differently; our company places a huge emphasis on delivering quality customer service. It is our mission to ensure our customers are saving as much money as possible on their currency exchange transactions. We value each and every one of our clients, and continue to fight for their business by offering Oshawa’s most competitive FX rates.

Areas Where You Can Trade Dollars in Oshawa

Oshawa, Ontario has a number of different options for international foreign currency exchanges ranging from banks to credit unions, hotels, and cash exchange retail services.  We’ve broken down some of these below by listing their individual pros and cons:

Foreign Exchange at the Oshawa Centre

If you’re looking for foreign money transactions in cash in Oshawa, the Oshawa Centre is a prime location.  The Oshawa Centre is the largest commercial retail hub in the Durham region and is located at 419 King Street West. The centre provides a competitively-priced currency exchange service for both Oshawa residents and tourists.  Located inside is a Continental Currency Exchange branch that offers favorable rates on a number of different currencies.  With most retail cash operations, their rates may not be as competitive as more specialized online brokers.  This is a good option though if you’re looking for cash denominations in smaller volumes, but you’ll be missing out on a ton of potential savings on larger transactions. The Oshawa Centre also houses several of the big five bank branches including Bank of Montreal.  Banks are popular options for currency exchange but it’s worth mentioning that their rates are not competitive for most users. However, if you’re subscribed to their premium services you could see better rates – although these services usually aren’t cheap.

Currency Exchange Services at Oshawa Hotels and Motels

Currency exchange service is becoming an expected service for hotels that are rated 3 stars or higher. Within the Durham region, Oshawa has a number of hotels to choose from that provide this in-house currency service.  Some of these FX hotels within city limits are the popular Quality Inn Hotel and Conference Centre, the Travelodge Oshawa Hotel, the Best Western Plus Durham Hotel 7 Conference Centre, the La Quinta Inn & Suites Oshawa, the Comfort Inn, and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Oshawa.  As a blanket statement, hotel foreign exchange services are very similar to the ones found at airports. They’re convenient, but they won’t save you any money.

Cash Money King Street Oshawa

The downtown commercial core of Oshawa comprises of King Street intersecting with Simcoe Street as well as the adjacent main roads.  There are a number of a financial institution, banks, and cash service operations that provide cash money exchange services in this area.  The Big Five Banks of Canada have several branches right at the King and Simcoe intersection including the Royal Bank of Canada, TD Canada Trust, and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.  Scotia Bank also has a branch located a block west at King and Queen Street.  If you’re a Bank of Montreal customer, you won’t be left out since there’s a branch located inside the Oshawa Centre which is a couple of blocks down King Street West.

If you prefer credit unions as opposed to banks, there are a few of those on King Street as well. There’s a Meridian Credit Union that is located further east along King Street just at the King-Townline Road intersection.  The Oshawa Community Credit Union is located at King Street East and Ray Street and is a popular banking choice for many Oshawa residents.  There’s also an Auto Workers Community Credit Union that is close by which may provide preferential rates to a large number of auto workers in the Durham region.  If you’re looking for other choices along King Street, there’s a Ukrainian Credit Union Limited branch and a Credit Union Central of Ontario located in the King Street West and Park Road area. Keep in mind that credit unions are no different than banks in the sense that their rates are non-competitive.

Commercial Banks and the “Big Five”

There are a number of banks with branches located in Oshawa including the Big Five Banks of Canada which have many locations throughout the city.  The Big Five include TD Canada Trust, RBC, CIBC, Scotia Bank, and BMO.  Other banks in the city include the National Bank, HSBC, and Desjardins.  While the rates at the banks aren’t the best, they are typically better than the rates at credit unions, and other retail cash services.

Digital-Only Currency Exchange Brokers

The best brokers for currency exchange may not have physical locations in Oshawa.  These exchange brokers tend to operate their service remotely online, where everything is done electronically and converted funds are sent straight to bank accounts.  The lack of having a walk-in physical location means that they have less overhead costs and can pass on their savings to their customers.  These services are becoming more commonplace as more companies decide to move their services online.  So if you’re looking to use one of these do your research first to ensure that they are a legitimate and reputable company. Most trustworthy financial service companies are regulated by the Canadian Federal Government and FINTRAC.   They could save you anywhere from 2-3% on your exchange rates, and on large amounts this could save you hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Obtaining Oshawa’s Best Exchange Rates

Getting the best exchange rates for USD and Canadian Dollar in Oshawa involves shopping around and comparing rates.  Convenience will always be a factor, so depending on where you’re located in Oshawa, your nearby bank, credit union, and cash exchange retail store should be considered.  The rates at these locations aren’t exactly optimal but on small amounts, you won’t lose more than a couple of dollars.  On higher volume transactions, you’ll want to find a provider like KnightsbridgeFX who greatly values your savings.
